On April 16, 1982, Lynne Kaneshiro founded Island Title and embarked on a journey to create a locally-owned company that would adapt quicker and more effectively to constantly changing market conditions. The economy was in a state of recession, interest rates were at 22%, sales were marginal at best, and competition was fierce. Despite being told that starting a business at that time was impossible, Kaneshiro set out to prove that it could be done.

Kaneshiro sought to find innovative ways to capture a share of the market as it was producing a significant number of foreclosures and real estate owned (REO) activity. In response to this, Kaneshiro researched the products offered by Island Title's underwriter and helped develop a "Litigation Guarantee Policy" which insured the lender's title position during the foreclosure process. She also developed another niche offering bulk rates for equity loan and second mortgage title insurance in exchange for the lender's volume business.

Kaneshiro combined these new products with an aggressive marketing strategy that involved targeting the local banking industry through personal visitations. The philosophy of Island Title was to provide the utmost in customer service and expedient and accurate services. At the end of our first year of business, Island Title did the unthinkable and broke even while other companies suffered dwindling profits. By the end of our third year, Island Title had become the second largest title and escrow company in the State of Hawaii.

Island Title has since evolved. Operating a workforce of approximately 100 dedicated professionals with one main office and seven branches throughout Oahu, Maui, and the Island of Hawaii, Island Title has made the successful transition from entrepreneurial start-up to corporate entity.

On January 2, 2004, Island Title formed a partnership with First American Title Insurance Company. This partnership has brought a wealth of resources to Island Title including professional training, new technology, automation, and excellent benefits, which provides our employees with greater opportunities for themselves and to better serve our valued clients.
